Moving Forward with EMV - What's Next?
Tuesday, June 20, 2 p.m. EDT
J. Lombardi

A lot has happened since MasterCard and Visa mandated all retailers have the ability to take a “smart-chip” credit card. The liability for credit card fraud where a chip was presented but not swiped has moved to the retailer. Smart chips take longer to process – not a positive in the green industry. And general frustration abound. Is there relief in sight? And has all this time and money even helped? What’s next for retailers?

Join our entertaining and informative session on EMV from one of our industry experts, J. Lombardi. J. has informed and entertained audiences for many years with the ability to take a complex and painful subject and break it down to an understandable format. There will be time for Q & A so bring your questions.

Management Tactics for Ambrosia Beetles Attacking Horticultural Tree Crops
Wednesday, May 10, 2 p.m. EST
Christopher M. Ranger, Ph.D. | Research Entomologist, Horticultural Insects Research Lab — USDA-Agricultural Research Service

If you've already experienced or are at risk for exotic ambrosia beetle attacks, this webinar is critically important for management strategies and prevention measures that will ultimately impact your bottom line for better or for worse.

Exotic ambrosia beetles are among the most destructive pests of trees growing in ornamental nurseries and tree fruit orchards. Beetles tunnel deep into the heartwood of trees, where they farm and consume their fungal symbiont. Pathogenic microorganisms can also be passively introduced into host trees during tunneling and gallery formation. Symptoms resulting from attacks include toothpicks protruding from the tunnel entrance, defensive sap production, wilting, and branch dieback. A wide range of trees are attacked, but thin-barked deciduous trees are generally preferred. Host quality plays an important role during host selection and beetles efficiently locate and preferentially attack physiologically stressed trees that are emitting ethanol. A variety of stressors can induce ethanol; flooding/inadequate drainage, frost injury, and freezing injury have preceded extensive attacks on intolerant trees growing in ornamental nurseries and tree fruit orchards. Monitoring and management tactics will be discussed for these destructive pests.
