SANC Miniseries Part 1: What is SANC?

Presented By: Tom Buechel, McKay Nursery

Recorded On: Mar 29, 2016

What is SANC? It stands for the Systems Approach to Nursery Certification. Certification of nursery stock for intrastate, interstate, and international shipping has become increasingly challenging for industry and regulatory agencies due to higher shipping volumes, increasing regulated pest pressure, more rigorous shipping requirements, and dwindling resources. The National Plant Board (NPB) is developing a process for incorporating a Systems Approach to Nursery Stock Certification (SANC) to enhance existing programs.

Why is SANC important and is it going to benefit the Green Industry? Discuss the advantages of becoming SANC certified and common fears associated with new programs.

SANC Miniseries Part 2: The SANC Program; Filling out the application - working through the Nursery Risk Assessment

Presented By: Tom Buechel, McKay Nursery & Jerry Lee, HORTech

Recorded On: June 21, 2016

What is SANC? It stands for the Systems Approach to Nursery Certification. Certification of nursery stock for intrastate, interstate, and international shipping has become increasingly challenging for industry and regulatory agencies due to higher shipping volumes, increasing regulated pest pressure, more rigorous shipping requirements, and dwindling resources. The National Plant Board (NPB) is developing a process for incorporating a Systems Approach to Nursery Stock Certification (SANC) to enhance existing programs.

This webinar walks through the nursery or greenhouse Facility Risk Assessment process for SANC. This is the foundation from which the entire SANC program is developed, so it’s critical in achieving success. Pilot nurseries in the program will share what they have learned through the risk assessment process and how it’s helped improve operations, communication, and plant quality.

SANC miniseries Part 3: Developing the Pest Management Plan, Facility Map, and Manual.

Presented By: Tom Buechel, McKay Nursery

Recorded On: July 26, 2016

The Pest Management Plan captures how issues identified in the SANC Risk Assessment are addressed. Learn how key information from the risk assessment provides the building blocks for the Pest Management Plan and how it influences the Facility Map. The Facility Map identifies critical areas to manage potential hazards and serves as the official agreement between a SANC nursery/greenhouse and the state plant regulatory agency. See examples of pilot nursery facility maps and how they fit into the SANC process.

SANC miniseries Part 4: Document Control and Training Application

Presented By: Tom Buechel, McKay Nursery

Recorded On: August 30, 2016

The SANC program requires that “we say what we do, and we can prove that we do it.” Learn what documentation this requires and how that documentation reflects the traceability of a product received and shipped and the pest scouting, mitigation, and personnel training that happened along the way. Hear from pilot nurseries what information they found helpful to include and how they’ve effectively implemented easy (and fun!) training regimens to reap the most reward.

SANC miniseries Part 5: Internal and External Audits and Certification

Presented By: Tom Buechel, McKay Nursery

Recorded On: September 9, 2016

The SANC program requires that participating facilities perform “internal audits” that indicate performed routine inspections and compliance with their individual Manual. Hear how this internal audit process works and learn from pilot nurseries how they have successfully implemented it. Also gain understanding of the external audits done by the State Department of Agriculture. Finally, pilot nurseries will share their perceptions of the entire SANC program and how it has affected their business.
