AmericanHort Calls for Reforms to EPA's IRIS Program in FY2025 Appropriations

AmericanHort, along with 40 industry stakeholders, is urging both the House and Senate Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies to address significant concerns with the EPA’s Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) program in the Fiscal Year 2025 appropriations bill. This letter highlights issues with IRIS’s chemical assessments, which often result in overly restrictive regulations that impact critical industries and everyday products. The stakeholders are concerned because IRIS lacks Congressional authorization and transparency in its chemical assessment process and does not adhere to the best available science. The letter calls for limitations on IRIS funding and directives for the EPA to implement improvements, similar to the provisions in the FY24 House-passed Interior appropriations bill.
