AmericanHort members joined a coalition in sending a letter calling on House leadership to retain the bipartisan gross vehicle weight (GVW) pilot program in the BUILD America 250 Act. Modeled on Rep. Dusty Johnson’s (R-SD-At Large) H.R. 3372, the provision would let states opt in to allowing six-axle trucks up to 91,000 pounds, subject to the Federal Bridge Formula. Supporters note that federal weight limits haven’t changed since 1982, and that the added sixth axle improves braking and weight distribution while reducing the number of truck trips needed to move freight. The coalition urges Congress to keep the provision in the final bill to strengthen supply chains, ease congestion, and improve affordability.
