AmericanHort, alongside 317 industry partners, has expressed concerns over USTR’s proposed Section 301 actions, which could increase container shipping costs by at least 25%, adding significant expenses for businesses and farmers. These changes may impact export competitiveness, raise consumer prices, and create supply chain challenges. Additionally, reduced ocean carrier service to U.S. ports could shift cargo to Canada and Mexico, affecting smaller port economies and increasing congestion. While we support efforts to strengthen U.S. shipbuilding, the proposed export requirements present challenges for the industry’s current capacity. We encourage USTR to consider alternative solutions that address China’s maritime influence while supporting American businesses.
