Grow Forward: Prevent Burnout with Working Genius
Every team runs into two familiar frustrations: some tasks feel effortless while others drain us, and even great ideas stall somewhere between conception and completion.
The Working Genius model, developed by Patrick Lencioni, gives teams a shared language for understanding why that happens, and a practical way to work better together.
This session introduces the model’s foundations to attendees in a fast-paced, discussion-rich format. No assessment is required; participants will leave with a working understanding of the framework they can apply immediately, and a foundation for taking the full assessment later if their organization chooses.
You’ll learn:
- The Three Stages of Work: how every project or initiative moves through Ideation, Activation, and Implementation, and why teams stall when a stage is under-resourced or rushed.
- An Overview of Working Genius: the six types of genius (Wonder, Invention, Discernment, Galvanizing, Enablement, and Tenacity), what energizes vs. drains each of us, and how to spot genius, competency, and frustration in ourselves and colleagues.
- The Altitude of Work: how the model applies at three different levels — organizational strategy, team projects, and individual meetings — so participants can use it beyond a single team, in whatever role they hold.

Dr. Lauren Griffeth
Certified Working Genius Facilitator, Extension Leadership Specialist
University of Georgia
Dr. Lauren L. Griffeth works to enhance leaders as individuals and in teams to improve organizational performance.
After an early career in fundraising, Dr. Griffeth joined the Public Service Faculty of the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences as an Extension Leadership Specialist. Dr. Griffeth facilitates cohort-based leadership programs with 240 graduates during her tenure. She has authored over 50 publications. Her research has been published in Consulting Foresters Magazine and the Harvard Business Review. In 2022, she launched Focused Leadership Solutions, to be able to provide broader support as an organizational development consultant nationally and internationally.
Dr. Griffeth earned a Ph.D. in Adult Education with certificates in Human Resources and Organizational Development and Qualitative Research. She is certified in Myers-Briggs, DiSC, Strengthsfinder, and Emotional Intelligence.
